The focusing and blending of vowel tones is considered. All speech vowels should first be sustained on a monotone. Nuances may be added gradually. Three authorities are discussed.

Simple, compact and complete* It covers all the essentials of class teaching of singing and is a useful pedagogical orientation for all sing­ing teachers. It should be a basic text.
